Neidene Titcomb, Grade 8, Age 13 - Painter & Photographer -
Painting - Almost every rainy day I am usually babysitting my two nieces. Whenever they see a puddle they run towards it, take a big leap and ....SPLASH! It takes 10 extra minutes to get home thanks to all the puddles we have in our city. When I am 20, they will be 12 and 13. By then, they will be too “old” to be as cute as they are now at 5 and 6. By painting this fantastic memory, now the three of us will never forget.

-Photography - I learned more about the art, and it is so great! Since my sister is a photographer, I thought I knew a lot, but now I know how hard it is to go out and find a great photo. I liked that the simplest picture can be art! I picked my picture because most people would just see mounds of paint. I see fantastic texture and a great blend of colors. My picture shows how our home is, too. All the paint colors represent the blend of cultures. Some of the paint is mixed, like people of multi-cultures, yet every culture can live in peace without clashing.

Bowe Ebding, Grade 6 , Age 11 - Photographer - What I liked best about photography is when we learned about shape, color, depth and angles. The coolest thing is how fun it is. I picked this picture for my final because it was the first picture that was in my head and I had a good idea. When I took it I loved it, and also because my bird “Booboo” was in the picture and he looked amazing. This is a very unique picture of my bird Booboo.

Catherine Stuck, Grade 7, Age 12 - Photographer - What I liked best about photography was how we could have our own style and it would still be right. The coolest thing I learned was how something so simple can turn out so cool. I picked this picture because it really showed the history of Lanai, and it is a “Lanai antique”, something that goes back generations. I also liked how the shape of the rock reminded me of Godzilla, my favorite movie dinosaur’s, egg.

Melia Kelley, Grade 7, Age 13 - Photographer - Photography was a totally awesome experience and I learned a lot. My favorite part was finding out I could take awesome pictures and that even a picture you don’t plan out can turn out to be the best one. The coolest thing I learned was how to capture a moment, almost like freezing time. I picked this picture because it looked really cool, was the best of my pictures and it’s special to me because I love the sunset and think it is one of the most beautiful times of day.

Chloe Northart, Grade 7, Age 12 - Photographer - What I liked best about photography class was the assignments to take a picture of something ordinary and make it interesting. The coolest thing was learning the techniques for taking pictures. Now I know how to take awesome photos. I picked this picture because it was interesting, was part of my life on Lanai, and shows so many of the things we learned about like using light, shadow and textures. It’s an awesome picture and cool to know I actually took it.

Christine Rendina, Grade 7, Age 12 - Photographer - What I liked best about photography was when our teacher said pictures I took were amazing. The coolest thing about the class was how you learned to see. I picked this picture because it stood out, I really like it, and this is what I want people to see.

Shanell Sarme, Grade 11, Age 16 - Painter - My painting is of my late grandfather Elias fishing at Manele Bay. I chose to paint this picture because I miss him a lot. His favorite thing to do was to go fishing. He taught my family how to fish and to respect the beach and the ocean. He would sit on a bucket like it was a chair, and if he caught something too small he’d throw it back in the ocean. I’ll always remember what he told us, “You have to eat what you catch.”

Micah Calilao, Grade 7, Age 12 - Painter - I painted this picture because I enjoy the full moon at night on the beach with a hammock to lay on

Sophie Conroy, Grade 8, Age 13 - Painter - I painted this particular painting because Manele Bay is a very special place to me. Some of my favorite times I’ve ever had have taken place on that beach. Manele Bay is themost beautiful beach I’ve ever been on and I decided to make a visual memory that will last forever.

Ann Jillian Fernandez - Grade 7, Age 12 - Painter - I painted this picture because I like turtles and the beach.
